People and plants
People long for idyllic green places, plants are a natural part of our identity and sense of home, our health, wellbeing and happiness. A permanent life in an artificial world without plants, like on a space station, is hardly conceivable for most people.
I am a geographer and photographer, working for urban gardening and biodiversity projects. What type of "nature" people accept and value in their neighborhoods, is an important question for our projects. Our relationships with and perception of plants are fundamental for our future way of live. Can we love and accept more green, more native wild plants, more big trees with all the "dirt" they produce, to get more resilient to heat and drought? Are we able to sensibilize us to the needs of plants and protect them and our livelihoods, not with new genetic engineering, but with organic and biodivers gardening? Or - will humankind finally end up in a totally artificial environment? This questions lead to all the feelings and moods and necessities people connect with plants - That's what I'm trying to visualize.
I always asked me very seriously, what would be, if plants feel pain? One can easily become vegan so as not to exploit animals, but humans have to use plants to live. We have no choise. Since then I try to understand the relationship between plants and humans and how to plant a better world. People do love and admire plants - most of them only need a little push to get involved in greener neighborhoods. I try to show the beautiful and ecological possibilities.
I am convinced, that we can shape a better world with our loving and understanding relationships to plants.
Eine Fotoreise zu vielen offenen Fragen. Ich freue mich auf die Menschen, die mit mir und meiner Kamera um diese Fragen kreisen wollen.
